Steve W owns a large farm at Si Khiu Korat and his story and pictures of the farm can be found on the Si Khiu Korat Farm page.
Stev and his wife lin kindly invited myself and my wife, Kanyah, to see his farm annd house build when I was in Thailand in Dec 2010/January 2011. We met at Steve’s farm on Wednesday 29th December. I didn’t take any photos then but Steve has kindly sent me several batches since.
If ever you get the opportunity to talk to Steve you are in for a real education. Steve has a very lively interest in so many subjects – like farming for example – and just on building he has 200 books. He is an avid student and very knowledgable. He also has an amzing insight into the Thai culture. An amazing guy and if you get the opportunity to meet him – seize it!
Steve Ws New House At Si Khiu Korat
Steve is having a new house built on his farm at Si Khiu Korat, Thailand. This is a 'self-build' project managed by his family in Thailand using local labour while Steve works in Singapore.

About Steve’s New House.
The house is simple single storey, 12 pole centre structure with 5 meter spacing. 2 bedroom / 2-1/2 bath.
The ceiling height is 3 meters. There is a 3 meter wide veranda all the way around and it will have a Thai kitchen in the back 6x6m. (Keeps the spicy smell outside.)
The posts are pre-cast concrete supporting a steel truss roof.
All the doors and windows are old teak from old houses. The floors in the house are marble and outside slate.
Steve recons the house should cost about 1.2 million Baht when complete.
Some Comments About The Pictures of Steve’s New House.
Some pictures show the preparation for pouring the floor slab and the pour itself. Steve’s commentary:-
- You can see that (in Steve’s absence) the steel reinforcement (re-bar) has been installed at wide centres and in one direction only. (Should be in two directions and possible steel mesh – depending upon the design)
- To reduce the danger from termites Steve is having the under-slab sprayed with anti-termite chemical before the floor slab is poured.

I received these photos from Steve on May 11, 2011 and just uploaded them today (May 30).
Steve said when he sent me the photos that he hoped to have the house finished in another month which would mean around 11 June.
