Subject Alan, Wow! Contract Signed with Builder

Hi Alan, Happy New year!

A bit late, I know, but it’s been a long couple of weeks.

I bought a new air ticket and flew out to Bangkok on Christmas day. Goodbye snow and ice-bound U.K. and welcome 30 deg C + Thailand!

It has been an endless round of talking to builders, going to wonderful restaurants and watching the Pakchong Cowboy Show. (More later on that)

But after a hectic, frustrating, and very busy couple of weeks, we have finally signed a contract with a builder to have our retirement house built in beautiful Pakchong.

In fact as I write this email, our builder is on the way to see us to present the final drawings that will accompany the Construction Contract.

With my brand new CamCorder I have recorded hours of ‘footage’ (pardon American language but there doesn’t seem to be an English equivalent) of my visit and the Pakchong Cowboy Show. The climax was the firework display at 12 midnight on December 31st and it was sensational.

I’ll be posting a movie of that (along with all the other stuff) later when I have had time to edit it, but it really was out of this world. For example, the firework displays put on for the Chinese Olympics pales in comparison. And that’s no exaggeration.

Oh! And the music at the Pakchong Cowboy Show was also fantastic. This was far better than Glastonbury – and it was completely free…

What a wonderful place Pakchong is.

That’s all for now, more movies and photos to on the website soon.

Hi Alan, The house build is progressing extremely well. Apart from just building the house Kanyah is erecting a fence and levelling the land.

Subject Alan, Pakchong Cowboy Movies, Happy New Year Fireworks, Concrete Posts Complete…

Hi Alan,

House build progress photos plus movies from my visit to Pakchong last January.

The movies include the Pakchong Cowboy City Countdown 2011 and a drive to our land in Pakchong.

The drive is a 5 minute movie taken from the front seat of our new Toyota pickup as Kanyah drives from Pakchong City Center to our land where the house is being built. There is also movie of a map of our land and an interactive map where you can zoom in or out or pan around to your heart’s content.

The Pakchong Cowboy City Countdown 2011 was an amazing event and culminated in a wonderful firework display to welcome the New Year as only the Thai’s can. You’ll love this.

Here are the movies:-

Subject Alan, Don’t Retire to Thailand! + Movies ‘Private’ Error Corrected

Hi Alan,Some Very Good Reasons Why You Should Not Retire To Thailand!

 I can’t believe I wrote this…

Dont Retire To Thailand

Movies Working Now

The movies on the “Our Land In Pak Chong” page are working now.

Just to refresh your memory one is an interactive map to our land and the other is an actual movie of a drive to our land from Pakchong. Lasts 5 minutes.

I set the movies to ‘private’ on YouTube because I didn’t want the whole world to see where we live! I have set them to ‘public’ for the time being until I get them loaded to a more secure server.

Subject Alan, Kanyah has been naughty – but the roof has started to go on

Hi Alan,

It has been some three weeks since Kanyah sent me any photos of the house build in Pakchong and I have told her that is naughty and can she please send them every week.

Anyway she sent a batch on Monday and I have now uploaded them to the RetiringInThailand website for you to see. They are on the Steel Roof Rafters Installed post.

Since the last time there has been terrific progress building the house and the fence. All the concrete works for the house is complete and the steel rafters for the roof are on.

The perimeter fence is virtually complete and construction of the wall at the front of the land is well under way. Don’t weld Galvanised Steel, here’s why:-http://retiringinthailand.net/steel-roof-rafters-installed

Sorry about the delay in bringing you these photos, hopefully it won’t be so long next time.

Subject Alan, More progress photos plus Marketplace added

Hi Alan, House Build Progress Photos A few more progress photos of the roof and the security wall:-

Roof Purlins On And Ready For The Roof Tiles

Thai Marketplace Added

This is a collection of eight online stores displaying products relating to Thailand hand-selected by myself from the Amazon.com website. They are actually web pages that link to the Amazon.com website therefore all the order process, prices etc are undertaken on the Amazon.com website:-

These are the product selections:-

  • Thai Bookstore
  • Thailand Maps
  • SatNavs
  • Build House Books
  • Learn The Thai Language
  • Thai Movies
  • Thai Cooking
  • Real Thai Food

I was amazed at the range of products relating to Thailand there are on the Amazon.com website but I had to spend a lot of time and dig deep to uncover some of them. So if you are looking for any of the above type products then you could save time by going to theThai Marketplace rather than going to Amazon.com.

Subject Alan, 800,000 Baht House Build in Pakchong Desert Town

Hi Alan,

What kind of house can you build for only 800,000 Baht?

Mike M shows you what you can get for 8000,000 Baht. A video walk around his land, his house plans and house build progress photos.

And Why is Pakchong a Desert? And it’s nothing to do with Cowboy City!

Here’s a clue:- It’s why Kanyah has not sent me any photos for two weeks and if it wasn’t true it would make a very funny story…

Subject Alan, The Roof’s On But Problems Are Arisin’

Like that song by Creedence Clearwater Revival I See The Bad Moon Arisin‘. . .
I see problems are arisin’

It’s true the roof tiles are on the main roof and it looks very tidy – but things aren’t looking so good on another front… and this is serious.

The progress photos are nice enough but weren’t sent to me by Kanyah!
