On Tuesday 4th May 2010 we took legal ownership of our plot of land in Thailand.

I have been busy adding plenty of new information on the RetiringInThailand website including details of how I am getting my house designed by an Architect in Bangkok.

Do you need any help getting your house in Thailand designed and/or built, because I just had an idea?
As you know I am getting my house in Pakchong designed and intend to start building later this year.
From previous attempts at trying to find local builders I know how difficult it can be and wondered if you had any experience or needed any help.
If you are having a house built and having difficulty with finding a builder I wondered if we could team up somehow? For example, if we could offer a builder the chance to build not just your house but mine as well he might show more interest and give us a better price.
Similarly we could potentially share the costs of a supervisor or Project Manager.
Just a thought that if we are both in a similar position we may be able to cooperate and make the whole process a bit easier for us.

On 23rd Septemebr Kanyah went to Thailand to find a builder. by now she will be in Pakchong. Our Architect has not quite finished the construction drawings yet – due by the end of this month.

We have received the construction drawings and are now looking for a builder. Sample drawings are on the website at:-

Finding Builders In Pakchong, Thailand
Now that Kanyah has the construction drawings she is looking for builders to get prices from and encounters problems with small builders not having the cash to purchase materials.
She is suggesting to purchase the materials herself and enter into a labour only construction contract with the builder.
So I have written the pros and cons of this approach and come down firmly on the side of not doing this.
Also there is a useful section on using and obtaining BOQs.
